84 Charing Cross Road by Helene Hanff

A delightful play telling the true story of the love affair
between Miss Helene Hanff of New York and Frank Doel,
a London antiquarian bookseller.

The story begins in 1949 when Helene, a would-be playwright wrote an enquiry letter to Messrs Marks and Co. of 84 Charing Cross Road,
the sellers of rare and secondhand books.

As Helene's warm and witty letters gradually break down the reserve of Frank their friendship across the miles flourishes and lasts for twenty years.
It would undoubtedly have continued longer but, sadly, in 1969
the secretary wrote to Helene telling her of Frank's death.
