Once Upon A Seashore by Donald F East
A delightful, nostalgic tale of romance for which St Pauls Drama Group won the Betchworth Cup for the Team with the Highest Marks and the Committee's Cup for Stage Presentation at the Betchwo
rth Festival in 1983.
An elderly widowed lady is sitting on a deckchair on holiday with her daughter, her husband and their children.
As she sits there her mind goes back to her own childhood; she came to the same seaside place with her parents and played with a little boy on the beach each year, same time same place.
Later, she and the boy meet up at senior school and go on to marry, have a girl and boy of their own and come to the same place by the sea for
their holidays.
As the old lady sits there remembering all these times
in her life, the episodes are played out by different actors from childhood through to adult.
The war comes and she very sadly loses her son - poignantly portrayed to the audience whilst the 'beach' is covered in barbed wire and war sirens sound.

The old lady really doesn't like her Son-in-Law and the play concludes with her going off stage telling us "she doesn't think she'll be coming anymore."
