THE LONG ROAD by Shelagh Stephenson
April 2011

The Long Road was St Paul's Drama Group's entry into the Southern Counties Drama Festival at The Barn Theatre, Oxted, in March 2011.  The production picked up three top awards:  Best Play, Best Actress and Best Actor.

Following performances at our "home" theatre, The Adrian Mann in Ewell during April, the production appeared at the Eastern Area Final of the All England Theatre Festival in Maidenhead on the 8th May.

Sadly, we were just pipped at the post but the team did walk away with the Stage Presentation award.

When eighteen year old Danny is fatally stabbed in a random attack, his family struggles to find meaning and forgiveness. His mother's determination to understand the atrocity brings her face to face with his killer and forces the family to confront the bitter senselessness of their loss.

In his review for The Croydon Advertiser and The Surrey Mirror, Tony Flook described this as a "taut production" in which "timing and pace were faultless throughout, whether in the several brilliantly delivered solo speeches or always spontaneous-sounding conversations".
