Who Was Hilary Maconochie? by James Saunders
This is a really clever and surreal piece by James Saunders whose work is said to have inspired Tom Stoppard.
In this play, the stately Mrs Drudge is visited by her close friend, Mrs Brute. Various revelations follow, ofter clarified and corrected by the maid, Hilda, who cuts through the confusion like a knife. Hilda is a very amusing character and expounds her own past affairs and grievances througout.
The play reflects on the fickleness of memory and how futile our lives and loves really are at the end.
