NEWS - 9th May 2011

St Paul's Drama Group took part in the 2011 Southern Counties Drama Festival during the week of the 28th February - 5th March, presenting The Long Road by Shelagh Stephenson, directed by Sheila Carr.

The production took the award for Best Play and received two nominations for Best Actress, Sara Watkins and Helen Jerome, with Sara winning the award.  Brian Cowle and Brian Aris were both nominated for Best Actor with the latter taking the award.

The group then presented the play at the Eastern Area Finals of the All England Theatre Festival, performing on the 8th May at Norden Farm Centre for the Arts, Maidenhead.  Sadly, we were pipped to the post on this occassion by just one point but we did win the award for Stage Presentation.

Congratulations and well done to director, cast and crew!

------------------------------------------------------------

St Paul's Drama Group was formed in 1956 and has since gone from strength to strength.
St Paul's enjoys taking part in various festivals such as The All England Theatre Festival which has Local and National heats and the All Winners Festival.

St Paul's has an enviable reputation for being accepted into competitions more years than almost any other group. They have won many trophies
with plays as diverse as the non-stop comedy
'Daisy Pulls It Off', Lorca's tragic 'Blood Wedding' and Rattigan's courtroom drama 'Cause Célèbre' which underlines their versatility as well as their ability.

As well as the recent success at the 2011 Southern Counties Drama Festival, in 2009 they enjoyed success with "The Children's Hour" winning the Betchworth Committee's Cup for Stage Presentation; a wonderful, thought-provoking play with a large cast ranging in ages from 10 to 70 years.

St Paul's Drama Group also had great success the previous year with their Festival entry production of "Happy Jack" by John Godber, getting through the eliminating rounds to win the Final of the 'All England Theatre Festival'.  They went on to represent England at the British Final in Swansea and also took part in the
All Winners Festival on the Isle of Man in July, coming second in the
One Act Play category.
